The
River
by Doug Webster ©1994 (SOCAN)
You say good-bye,
my ears cannot believe the words they hear;
You turn and walk away,
my eyes cannot believe the sight they see;
The river rises
and overflows its banks in the rain;
Your just a memory now,
my heart cannot believe the pain it feels.
I take one step, another step,
I turn around you're gone;
I never asked that much,
I never even asked you to explain;
The river rushes over rocks,
its currents sweep the bottom clean;
Another day goes by
and with each day a memory I forget.
The river carries off the coloured leaves from the trees in fall.
The river freezes carries skaters there at Christmas time.
The river thaws in spring and with it carries life to sea.
The river gently flows in the summer,
and carries love back home.
A year has come and gone
and with each passing season I grow strong;
Still from time to time I think of you
but now the tears don't flow;
The river rolls along,
it winds its way around another bend;
First time since you left I've felt
I could love someone else.
I hear a voice, it say's hello,
my ears cannot believe how sweet;
Like a vision in the night,
my eyes cannot believe the sight;
The river gently flows
between its banks beneath a yellow moon;
The seasons come and go,
my heart cannot believe how good it feels.
The river carries off the coloured leaves from the trees in fall.
The river freezes carries skaters there at Christmas time.
The river thaws in spring and with it carries life to sea.
The river gently flows in the summer,
and carries love back home,
it carries love back home... |
