Trish was recorded and mixed over the period from February to July, 2001. The project was conceived in November 2000 when
Doug and Trish were in limbo with respect to whether Trish's cancer was gone or not. A week before recording began they received confirmation that Trish's cancer had recurred, a recurrence that they knew would be fatal. The project went ahead as planned with Trish's urging. The CD, the artwork and liner notes were completed before Trish's death, and she was
delighted with the results. The delivery of the first batch of CDs came on the day of Trish's funeral.

CD Liner notes:
Some
things we choose; most are chosen for us and we do what we can
with them. Five years ago the Seabreeze phase of my music career
hit a wall. Last fall I chose to cap that phase and wrap my music
career to date. The impetus to do so was more than a little
connected with supporting my wife Trish Gibney through ovarian
cancer, an excruciatingly sad experience
paradoxically interwoven
with great joy and beauty. The album is simply titled Trish in
recognition of our love and her vast contribution to my life.
The 15 songs are culled
from the past 22 years. I chose each by one criteria - I wanted to
record it. It's Christmas is extra special, I wrote it for Trish.
Only Matters of the Heart has been previously recorded with a band
and this version has a slightly modified composition thanks to
Tony. All the songs are written and composed by me except Break It
Gently To You and Helps Hide the Hurt which Tony and I rewrote
based on old songs of mine.
The choice of the core
band members has significance beyond their amazing talents.
Drummer Ed Goodine and I have been
friends since 1979 when we played together in my first recording
band the allies. Ed has played on many of my projects and his
involvement was an important link between then and now. Guitarist Tony
Quarrington provides a sense of continuity too, having worked
with me through the Seabreeze phase beginning about 1992. Though a
relative new comer, I loved what bassist Dennis
Pinhorn's strong R&B style did with Seabreeze and I wanted
that in this recording.
The other artists involved
in the project have came to it with varying degrees of history.
Singers Trish Gibney and David Dunbar added their magic by my
special request. Trish is Trish and David has been my vocal coach
and our friend for many years. Keyboardist Denis Keldie and singer
Doreen Smith were excellent recommendations by Tony. Gary Honess,
the staff engineer at Number 9 Studio where we recorded and mixed
was a serendipitous bit of good fortune. Ray
Blake, another Tony
recommendation, applied a fine finishing touch to the album
through mastering. The packaging design is by Jeff Mckean. Jeff is
an artist I work with and admire.
A portion of revenues from
the sale of this album will be contributed to ovarian cancer
research and cancer support. If you feel inclined, please make a
direct contribution to the Ovarian
Cancer Association near you.
